As far as an OODB, that is planned for the next version of SQL Server,
from what I've heard.  You'll be able to have a hashtable-like object
whose datastore is sql server--you could access your objects via the
object's indexes transparently.  Very cool stuff.  Actually, I've also
heard that there's a version that'll sit on top of Sql2k, but that it's
in alpha stage.

On the topic of the next version of Sql Server, it'll have support for
MSIL, so you can write your stored procedures in C# or some other
language rather than just vanilla T-SQL.
