Hello!

Sorry I'm still too busy to publish our newsletter more frequently.
However our project is still moving on as you will see. I've just
published the latest development release 2012-03 and the latest
Gondwana update 1.2 is on the road. The next step is the successor of
Gondwana due to mid 2012, most likely June. All our work will focus on
this release after Gondwana 1.2 is out.

All the best,
JM.

PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free
to answer this mail with your scoop!

Team
=====

* Mbouzada asked to create the Galician team and is already at work.
* Poczciwiec joined the Polish team and is already at work.

Welcome to our project!

Organization
===========

* The Google Summer of Code 2012 (GSoC) rejected our application [1].
This is sad but won't prevent us from going forward! Our list of ideas
[2] is still running, and I've just reorganized our list of tasks [3].

* Everybody seems to love DuckDuckGo, then we'll remove Google from DDL
[4]. DuckDuckGo has a much much more satisfying policy concerning
user's data. It'll help us provide children all around the world with a
clean web experience: no ads, no user profiling, no spyware at all.
Believe me, there is strictly no link with the previous news above ;).

Translations
============

* Translations were submitted on Transifex for Arabic (Karim), Galician
(Mbouzada) and Polish (Poczciwiec).

I recall that I'm planning to change all the Transifex resources in a
near future. These changes are required to prepare translations for the
successor of Gondwana. Although I still haven't a precise date, this
should occur within 1 or 2 weeks.

Development
===========

* Gérald is currently dealing with Plymouth on ARM, to get a nice
animated graphical boot. Currently Plymouth is not available on the
official Debian archive for ARM while Ubuntu uses a patched version for
ARM.

* Constantin, one of our Greek translators, proposed to develop a real
DDL installer. This is great news since we're currently lacking an
*easy* way to definitively install DDL (the official Debian installer
not being easy enough to me). I suggested him to have a look at the
SolusOS installer, as mentioned in a recent mail on the Debian
derivatives list [1].

* I patched Lxlauncher to have a better look & feel in DDL's advanced
activities [2].

* I've published a post on our dev's blog telling how to install DDL
starting from a minimal installation of Debian [3].

* I started to look at the annoying bug of Stopmotion, unable to use
file/directory names with characters out of the small ASCII subset.
It's going be a long work…

* I published our latest development release [4] while the latest
update of Gondwana is on the road. Beta versions are already available
from the dailybuild section [5]. This is mainly a translation update
with very few new features.

Artwork
=======

* Elisa started to work on the next DDL graphics design, for the
successor of Gondwana [1].

Website
=======

* Two pages need to be updated for the development release [1]. Please
check your translations.

* A news needs to be translated, still for the development release
publication [2].

* Several German pages published, I suppose by Tomsk students
(proofreading wanted?): “Erstellen eine USB-Geräts”, “FAQ für
Übersetzer”, “Was Neues in dem letzten Release?”, “DoudouLinux
Quellcode”.

Communication
=============

* DDL has 4 full pages in “Linux Pratique Essentiel”, a French
speaking Linux magazine [1]. I purchased it ;).

* Our latest development release has been announced on DistroWatch,
leading to an increase in visits :) [2].

* Xavier is now regularly publishing news on our dev's blog [3][4].
Feel free to join his effort if you want to animate our community.

* I recall that Salvatore launched the translation of our Wikipedia
article into English [5]. The idea is to split the effort among several
translators who understand Latin languages. Unfortunately we're still
lacking of volunteers :(.

Support
=======

* Several support requests about video driver issues, probably wrongly
detected or not supporting a recent video chipset.
