Yes.  I take it that it doesn't help.

It could only work for applications which correctly look for this 
message.  I suspect that the ones people are having trouble with are 
probably broken in this respect anyway, in which case it's not going to help.

A good test of which ones look at this message and which ones don't is to 
turn DQSD off, to get it out of the picture, then stop Explorer (with task 
manager or the ctrl-alt-shift-cancel technique I've described before), then 
restart Explorer.

If you lose tray icons doing this, then the applications are broken and the 
refreshicons modification won't help.
