The only way to retain SSB operations with the Sherwood option is the
switch kit, or some other switch, etc. I guess you could take the filter
out after each contest and plug a wider one in? :-)
Also note that the 600 Hz roofing filter eliminates the NB function,
which may or may not be of importance to you.
The GUF-1 filter is a good filter, 8 poles vs the 4 poles of the
standard roofing filter, so the skirts are steeper, and the ultimate
rejection is better, IF it is installed and wired correctly. Whether
the improvement is worth $120, only you can decide.

reading the material available on various web sites and thinking about adding a
first IF, "roofing", filter to my R-4C. I use the rig for rag chewing on CW
