"Al Parker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi folks,
I never heard of this D-star stuff, but:
Got the 'new" TenTec Triton IV on the air this wk. Got it to re-live
my first modern rig & see if it's still as neat as it was 30 yrs ago.
Pretty close, but it doesn't have the CW filter like the one I had back
then. I do have a RadShack DSP unit I picked up somewhere that does a
pretty good job with it. I haven't cruised the CW bands much in the last
yr or so, and was disgusted at all the digital crap (and voice) that has
worked it's way down as far as 7030. If that's the "new" ham radio, I'll
opt out. You can copy CW sigs that are less than 500cy apart, but that
crap gobbles up 2-3kc with its warbling, chirping, etc. It used to be a
few digi's up around 7070-80, and some Canadian voice that low maybe.
I still say that if you tuned across 40m(for example) not long ago,
you'd find more CW sigs than SSB sigs, probably depends a bit on time of
day. Now it's hard to find the FISTS, golowbugs, etc., who used to hang
out around 7050 -60 I think.
    nuf bellyaching
