I first tried the 6GJ5 substitutes 2 years ago after I purchased a very nice looking original 4 line (R-4/T-4X/AC-3) at the Peoria hamfest for a grand total of $110. The only problem with the rig was missing finals and not having a spare pair of 6JB6's nor willing to pay epay or AES prices given the total cost of the rig I tried a pair of Sylvania 6GJ5s that were on hand. They neutralized easily and the transmitter seems to produce nearly equal power to my C line. All brands may not work and perhaps the stray capacitance varies from transmitter to transmitter but given the results I picked up several low cost pairs of 6GJ5 tubes to keep on hand.
