Evan,
You probably have the best solid thought about these speakers. I do have an advantage over a lot of guys in as much as my hearing is in SAD condition and I may not detect anything of a negative nature out of the MS-8. I am very bad about wanting things to match and be symmetrical when it is assembled and ready for use. The appearance of a lot of things I have is my hang-up, it can be a real pain to deal with at times. I was never able to shake off the desire to have Drake equipment from way back in 1967 when I got my first set of twins. In my opinion, it would be very difficult for me to find ANY rig that would please me as much as the Drakes do. But to each their own and what is preferred by one might be shunned by another. Let's all enjoy the Drake gear to our own particular preferences! What does help the MS-7 though, is to get a replacement speaker for the TR-7, mount it in the MS-7 cabinet, and insert acoustical foam inside the cabinet. 73, Evan -----Original Message----- From: David & Chris Drake <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tue, 4 Sep 2007 9:11 am Subject: Re: [drakelist] MS8 Speaker "David & Chris Drake" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim, The MS8 is out there, but got a bad rap from the git-go as to sound quality. I, myself purchased a brand new R8 when they came out and then, contrary to opinion,... and because I'm a bit hardheaded, ..ordered the MS8. Well the opinions were right,...and it was not a very good speaker. I sent it back to Universal Radio for credit. An MS4 sounds much better and thats what I used for the time I owned mine. Even better for broadcast listening is a powered computer speaker. In addition, the internal speaker sounds pretty darn good. OK, having said all that, it would be nice, from a collector point of view, to have the infamous MS8 sitting next to the world beater R8 or its able successors the R8A and R8B. Hope you find one!! But if you do, use both the MS8 and the internal speaker together for best results.
