Just about ANY _High-Z_ (high impedance) microphone will "work" with
the T-4XC. Which one is best depends in part on your particular voice
characteristics, manner of speaking, how you hold the microphone, how
far away you speak from the mic, etc., etc., etc. Any of the Shure,
Electro-Voice, Astatic or other name brand High-Z microphones will work
well, but each one has a slightly different sound.
That said, MOST people seem happy with the results from the Shure 444 or
the Astatic D-104 or the E-V 664. The D-104 in particular is sensitive
to the actual impedance seen by the cartridge. The version with the
pre-amp in the base eliminates this problem, since the preamp presents a
known, constant load for the mic cartridge, regardless of the
transmitter it's used with.
If you can, arrange to borrow a mic or two from friends and ask them to
tell you which one sounds most "like you" in person.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to Drake and I just bought a complete C station that was only
used once or twice and only on CW therefore there is no mike. I know I
will have a million questions for the list but right now I am waiting
for the station to show up. So while I am waiting I would like to know
which is the best mike to get? I know the Shure and the D-104? What
other options? which do you like the best?
Please help me decide!
Thanks!
