I really don't know what we are worried about with the nylon gears. If the
gears were spinning the whole time the radio is on, I'm sure the designers
would have taken that into account and made them brass or something needing
lubing. As it is, these gears only function to show the change in frequency as
we tune. Metal gears make a lot of noise in these applications, where the
nylon (plastic) gears do not. Yes, bearings and shaft sleeves should be lubed,
they are designed with "slack" to accomodate the lubrication, but normally
trying to lube things that were not intended to be lubed results in drips where
they are definitely not needed. Just my opinion, not worth probably as much as
it cost you, hi. I spent time last evening and this morning "cruising the
bands" on my "new" 2B, and it is as smooth as a new one, without being lubed
likely since it left the factory. I'm going to hate to take it out of line to
change the necessary electrolytics, etc, hi.
