Hi Hunter,
We've all done something like that (at least once).
My first thought would be to check the dropping resistor in the plate
line to the driver tube. They're known to be a loaded near their
rating, and drift high in value, similar to the cathode & screen
resistors for the finals. It could have gotten hot enough to crack
open, and then close enough to make contact when cooked a bit. The ones
for the finals should be checked, but 2 would have to fail to give you
your symptoms.
