Lou -

Is the transmitted signal 'rough', or is it just the SIDETONE that is rough??

You might try bridging C129 with whatever electrolytic you have handy..........

In the spot position the tone is perfect. only in the tune or transmit does the AC noise or raspy tone comes in?
Anyone out there have any ideas what I can do before I send the rig out?

Is it intermittent...? Check your transmit frequency in the " /SPOT /" position---if it /still /sounds rough, suspect the PTO, exactly as what happened to my T-4X here! I had /TWO /bad / cold solder connections to the large fixed silver mica tank capacitor therein...ended-up simply outright replacing it. Yes, it /COULD /be something else---but as Yogi Berra would say, "... /Sounds like deja vu all over again to me!"... /
