The theory is that it will keep you from electrocuting yourself on the AC mains
my detecting an imbalance of current between the hot and neutral conductors and
opening the circuit. It won't help you if you grab a live plate supply in the
radio. GFCIs are not always desirable when serviceing vintage radio equipment,
because the older gear tends to have too much "leakage" from larger RF bypass
caps on the AC line.
