Mike, if we knew that, we'd fix the bug before adding code to sync ;o)

You want to look at ext3 (or a.n.other journalling fs) not foolproof,
but I'm hitting reset all the time and not suffering dire consequences
since ext3 went in the kernel.

As Jens said, there are things like watchdog cards that can be used
as well.

DRI isn't really the place to start sync'ing and remounting discs.

When I asked before "what is the problem you're trying to fix", I
probably should have said "Are you having a problem with the radeon
driver hanging? If so, what are you running etc etc" - The patch you
sent afaict, doesn't fix any hangs in the radeon driver, even if that's
the place where it is when you see that it's died - it often will be,
but not because that function is buggy.
