Tim Donohue commented on DS-651:
--------------------------------

This suggestion was discussed during the DSpace Developers Mtg on Jan 12, 2011.

We feel we may need more explanation or details on what is being suggested, or
use cases which better describe what is needed. We were unable to come to a
consensus on where these Handles or IDs are missing (e.g. handles actually are
in 'dc.identifier.uri') or how to best enhance the current metadata schemas and
dissemination of metadata.

Full discussion follows:

[20:02] <tdonohue> DSpace Intermediate Metadataformat DIM - include handle or
ID : https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-651
[20:04] <grahamtriggs> evening
[20:04] <tdonohue> hmmm.. anyone understand what Claudia is asking for in
DS-651? I thought we already do include the DSpace Handle in 'dc.identifier'?
[20:05] <tdonohue> I mean 'dc.identifier.uri' includes the Item Handle
[20:05] <robint> I think the reference to the handle is misleading.
[20:06] <elinstangeland> I read this to mean that not all metadata is included
in the DIM, and she suggests that they should be?
[20:06] <robint> The other stuff she refers to is held in the Item table as she
describes
[20:06] <elinstangeland> May be wrong though
[20:06] <grahamtriggs> it includes the handle formatted as a uri, and not the
raw value. The raw value - plus all of the metadata that exists as columns in
the item table would be useful to have
[20:07] <tdonohue> aha. Ok, now I understand. So, perhaps she's suggesting a
separate metadata schema called "dim" (instead of just 'dc') which includes
this extra info which doesn't easily fit into Dublin Core, persay?
[20:07] <elinstangeland> From my point of view it would make sense to keep this
infor together at least
[20:08] <elinstangeland> infor = info
[20:08] <PeterDietz> I'm thinking its to have another section in
http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui//metadata/handle/1842/207/mets.xml such as the
meta-information (inArchive t/F)
[20:08] <robint> Or she just wants it exposed whenever DIM is generated
[20:08] <mhwood> Mark this "please explain further"?
[20:08] <tdonohue> sounds like we have ideas all over -- we need to get things
narrowed down :)
[20:09] <tdonohue> mhwood -- yea, I'd agree, we need to come to a common
understanding of what is needed, and then find a volunteer or two
[20:09] <tdonohue> DS-651 - Will ask Claudia to explain further, need more
details. Others are also encouraged to add their feedback/ideas/comments

> DIM just contains the metadata from metadatavalue, whereas some other
> item metainformation like its archival status (withdrawn or not), last
> modified etc. is kept in the item table. For dissemination it would be
> usefull to have access to this information. Including the handle as an
> attribute in dim:dim, would allow this.
