Claudia Jürgen commented on DS-651:
-----------------------------------

Hi all,

should have been more verbose from the start. I came across this issue while
creating a new xMetaDissPlus crosswalk for the deposit to the national library.
This crosswalk requires a bit more metainformation, e.g. about the bitstreams,
authorizations etc.

Some information about an item is not contained in the item metadata in terms
of metadatavalues. There is further information in the item table and the item
relations/context.

If you do want to use an xslt crosswalk, which takes e.g. the status
"withdrawn" into account this is not straightforward.
Other use cases might be checking permissions of the item, checking for
existing and accessible bitstreams, the last modified date ...

One can refer to dc.identifier.uri and retrieve the handle, but I think it is
not good to rely on item metadatavalues as these are editable/deletable or
might be otherwise used.

The ID and or handle should be in attribute in <dim: dim itemID="n" ...
This would makes crosswalks a more flexible tool.

cheers

Claudia

> DIM just contains the metadata from metadatavalue, whereas some other
> item metainformation like its archival status (withdrawn or not), last
> modified etc. is kept in the item table. For dissemination it would be
> usefull to have access to this information. Including the handle as an
> attribute in dim:dim, would allow this.
