Tim Donohue commented on DS-996:
--------------------------------
Hi Richard,
A few implementation comments:
It seems there isn't any easy way to actually set the optional reason text?
(Or am I missing it?). It looks like the only way to get a withdrawn reason
into place is to take these steps:
(1) Withdraw the item
(2) Go back to the Item page (I had to look up the Item Handle or ID to find
the item again)
(3) Edit the metadata & manually add the withdraw reason to the appropriate
metadata field.
Also, it looks as though, if you reinstate the item, the withdraw reason stays
in place (it's not visible by default, but it still remains in the metadata
record -- which could be confusing if anyone were to look at the full metadata
record). It seems logical that the 'reinstate' process should remove that
withdraw reason.
Beyond that, the basic functionality looks good to me. It works if I add the
withdraw reason manually, and remove it manually after reinstating the item.

> Following the work at UMich (DS-587), this patch will cause the value of any
> configured item metadata field on the withdrawn item's tombstone page to
> display.
> It is configured by the optional property
> 'webui.tombstone.reason=<metadatafield>' in dspace.cfg
> If configuration property is not defined, the tombstone will appear without a
> reason display area.
> If a given item lacks a value for configured metadata field, the reason
> displayed will be the value of the message: 'jsp.tombstone.noreason'
> The prompt before the reason text is the value of the message:
> 'jsp.tombstone.reason'
