Richard Rodgers commented on DS-996:
------------------------------------

Hi Tim:

Thanks for the quick run-through and comments. You are quite right that no
attempt to automate either the addition or removal of the metadata field was
made: I regarded the principal requirement as user-facing, not
administrator-enabling. We do one or two withdrawals a year, if that (as an
example), and it did not seem a relatively high priority to wizard a few steps
away, although this clearly could be done - and it is multi-step, as you
observe. On small change in ordering might help:
(1) Go into edit item page, add the metadata field containing the reason
(2) Withdraw item (no lookup needed)

But your points are well taken, and if this seems too cumbersome, perhaps it
can wait until a later release until it is smoother.

Thanks

> Following the work at UMich (DS-587), this patch will cause the value of any
> configured item metadata field on the withdrawn item's tombstone page to
> display.
> It is configured by the optional property
> 'webui.tombstone.reason=<metadatafield>' in dspace.cfg
> If configuration property is not defined, the tombstone will appear without a
> reason display area.
> If a given item lacks a value for configured metadata field, the reason
> displayed will be the value of the message: 'jsp.tombstone.noreason'
> The prompt before the reason text is the value of the message:
> 'jsp.tombstone.reason'
