We've done it for some metadata like Dewey Classification, Publication Type and used it to i18n the browse of these, see: https://eldorado.tu-dortmund.de/browse?type=ddc The data stored is just the number: dc.subject.ddc=004 The labels are in the message catalogue and can be used wherever wanted.
