Hi Mark, I have just had a look at that page and the subsequent pages that it links to. Prior to running ant fresh_install had you successfully completed the " Step 5. Download the Maven2 packages from the Internet" ? If so you should be able to see in the output from that step where the target directory resides. It is safe to rerun the 'mvn package' command so you could do so and paste the tail end of the output here.

I am not sure what I did to cause the problem, so I would like to reinstall it, but I can't seem to find the instructions that I used to set up our server (a VM running in Virtual Box). I tried the instructions that started here: http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Install_Ubuntu but when it came time to run ant fresh_install, there was no directory that matches what the instructions talk about (/home/dspace/dspace-1.6.2-src-release/dspace/target/dspace-1.6.2-build.dir). Is there anywhere on the web a set of fool-proof instructions on how to install Dspace in Ubuntu server (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1-server at the moment). I have to tell you guys, if I can't get it to work, my boss is going to make us abandon Dspace in favor of software that we are going to have to pay for. I'm not a linux noob. Why is it so hard to install?
