Well, I was able to roll back to a snapshot prior to my install attempt yesterday (gotta love those vm's!), and by paying close attention to the errors I was getting, I was able to install 1.6.2 on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. It's an ordeal. The instructions at the link ( http://wiki.lib.sun.ac.za/index.php/SUNScholar/Install_Ubuntu) don't exactly match any more, so if you don't normally know anything about java (I know nothing), it's a struggle. Now all I have to do is get it pointing to port 80 and I can start bringing stuff over from our old installation.
