Thanks for the quick explanation.
I was putting it in this section of the item-list.xsl:
<xsl:template match="dim:dim" mode="itemSummaryList-DIM-file">
though if I understand correctly (not likely!) the dim metadata doesn't include
the bitstream info like mimetype, and thus my problem. My goal is to display
the mimetype below the title / author / date info on the browse screens. I
tried adding a call to the mets:file template but that didn't seem to work
either.
