I am in the process of migrating out from qmail because of its almost-end-of-life status... Future announced incompatibilities, hard to implement functionalities which are considered "standard" today ("S" protocols, SASL...), bunches of patches and add-ons for each installation, vpopmail-auth not supported any more by Courier-IMAP (which I dislike, anyway)... Qmail has been a great product and I've been using it for about 10 years now, with a continued satisfaction, and I guess I would still do if it was officially maintained and upgraded, but I am not very confident in building brand new mail systems on it nowadays...
