Why masking when you can make a -r1 revision and just apply this patch 
here:

Masking packages involves a lot Gentoo devs, while using a new revision 
with the patch from above can be done by the Ebuild maintainer.

If you know Gentoo devs then you know that just opening bug reports is 
not going to accelerate things. On the other hand.... adding a new 
revision of the Ebuild that includes the patch from above will sure get 
more attention.
