Excellent point Alan. We have not had any problems yet but it is possible. Not
sure if the dstar equip is heavy duty enough to handle constant use.  The only
problem we have had is not related to equip but to linking itself. Users seem
to disagree on whether it should be linked 24/7 or not. Some people get tired
of the nationwide party line as we call it. We try to keep that to a minimum by
linking the lesser used port B so if someone does not want to hear it then they
can move to port  C and get away from it. If we need to make a local call we
ask if anyone local is apposed to dropping the link temporally to make a
call. My own personal opinion since we have user linking here is if you bring
up the link then when you are finished and leave the radio unattended take it
down. Someone comes along later and has no idea it is linked if no traffic at
the time and things get confusing from there. Personally I do not like 24/7
linking but if the user
does not have control over it and would like to use the feature then 24/7 I
guess is the only option. The most important thing in the dstar community is
Education , Education, Education . Users have got to know how to work the
system.
