I agree with Dan! You are way off base. Repeaters don't come free. They cost money to buy and to maintain. With DSTAR gateways there is the add expense of an internet connection.

But, it appears that you too have the typical attitude found among hams that repeaters are free and towers grow everywhere like trees, and they all come complete with feedline and antennas, free electricity and spare parts..... Come on people, use a little common sense and put this thread to rest. I we spent more than $10K on a repeater. We allow open access from the repeater RF side to allow hams passing through to use the system. If you would like to use the special features of the system, then unlike clubs of days past, you don't have to support MY group, just one of the groups. Why is it that a ham buys a radio and thinks it automatically gives him the right to use someone elses repeater? Yet that same ham would be appalled if I just walked into his house to use his HF station..... Yes, I know that is a little harsh, but pretty much everyone here that owns and supports a repeater has already been thinking it. Please have the "class" to truly appreciate what you have.
