I’ll leave all the other stuff along, but I will reply to the following.

D-STAR HAS taken off. It’s not when.  I believe that it was some time in the 
second half of last year when the D-STAR snowball started rolling on its own. 
All that can be done at this time is to guide it.

What can the D-STAR proponent do? First is to always remember that the network 
software got handed to us as-is. The second is to remember that for most 
people, their real lives and jobs come first, so innovation is not going to be 
at the same pace as the commercialized world.

We're all pioneering a method of communication that is too new for this stuff. 
What can I the d-star proponent/ user do to help bring both sides to the table? 
If we don't resolve this d-star will never take off.
