I use my 91AD like this. I monitor my IRLP node (analog) and the one 
of the local DV outputs at the same time.

I can also be put on scan. It can be programed to scan which and how many 
channels you want. Even non HAM frequencies on receive only . 

I have our 900 mhz ham repeaters programed in also, so I can monitor if needed 
. 

More HAMS should read the manual instead of arguing what it will do and not do.
