Be sure GPS is OFF and squelch is not open - may even be good to set the attenuator ON. It will not transmit with open squelch.
I use a prolific converter - XP and http://cobalt.n5zpr.com/dstar2.html cable drawings. Also be sure in system hardware configuration you have to com port set correctly. Nice test feature for d * Chat - use echo on your local repeater.
