What we could do is require people to use a certain code in brackets in the subject line. So off topic emails would start with [OT], BSD related could go [BSD] job related [JOB] this would allow LUG members to filter their LUG Emails based on what they do and don't want to see.
So obviously a new poster would no tknow about this code of conduct. So to resolve this issue, when a new user subscribes to the LUG, they are automatically sent an email that tells them the code of conduct for the LUG. I.e. these are the rules for none Linux related postings, do not high jack other people's threads, these are the rules for responding blah blah blah. To enforce these rules all of a new users posts are moderated, and require that a moderator agree to allow the email to be sent to the list. Yahoo allows you to decline an email posted to the list and also allows you to send an email back to the user to explain why. So the moderator denies the email, explains to the user why the email was rejected and asks them to repost using the correct syntax.
