9 is nice if you want the few extra bits and pieces and the compatability
with X, but I don't see a reason to fully go over to it on a 2400 - I run
8.6 as my main system but have a 9 system as my backup/spare on my
external. With regards to the emulator in X, in my experience (DP4 most
recently) it searches other partitions on the disk for the pre-upgrade OS9
and then runs that within a window, thus keeping all your old
settings/prefs that are needed for classic/legacy apps...
If I ever get a G3/G4 powerbook, I will end up putting X on it but there
are still a few little things in the latest version of 9(the one that apple
have been working on as the actual classic environment) that have been a
little annoying - eg. loss of support (hopefully temporarily) for some
useful pieces of software, so for now I'm staying firmly in the 8.6 camp...
but whatever people say, X is finally shaping up to be a very nice move
onwards...
Later.
Dan.
