Give me specs on the laptop! Is it an HP or Compaq? Windows ME is a user
version of Windows 2000 and will not work on some Compaq and HP computers
(Laptops) neither will windows 2000. Did you use the upgrade or the full
install? Are you trying to use Dual boot systems? Did you check for new
drivers for your hardware and software? What about Bios update did you
check for One? Don't burn new Bios if you have never done it before!
(Always backup your old Bios)

Subject: [Duo2400] Confirming What We Already Knew

I must say that the past couple of days have made me really glad to be a
Macintosh user. I've spent them trying to help a friend wrestle Windows
Millenium Edition onto his laptop computer, with zero success. It's a
fairly new laptop, only 6 months old, and formerly ran Windows 98. However,
Windows ME gives it indigestion for some reason. The install went smoothly
until the OS started looking for Plug & Play devices. Then it locked up.
Now, the laptop won't even boot fully - just starts up and goes back to the
"looking for PnP devices" screen and freezes - hard.

In all the years I've been using Macs, I've never seen an operating system
lock up during installation and render a computer unusable. Not once. As
cranky as OS 9 was when I first started running it on my desktop G4, it
never did anything like this.
