OK, I hate when I respond to my own post, but I think I understand how it
works. You need to insert the battery when the computer is on. I just did
remove the battery, turned on the 280c and then re-inserted the battery. The
little icon in the menu bar changed with a little spark appearing, and the
same happened in the control strip. So, now I know it's currently charging
the battery.
After making more general searches, I finally found the "PowerBook Duos:
Getting Started" guide, which explains some PowerBook Duos specific
features.
I also did install the "Essential PowerBook Strip", thanks to the poster of
the message with the link!
