What your reading indicates that the battery is fully charged!

Mostly red/orange with a tiny triangle at the top means it's "full". The
triangle will "slide" down to the bottom as the battery discharges. The
battery will become a light blue/grey as it "empties".

All greys in the control strip means fully charged. They turn white as the
battery discharges. Keep in mind that many Duos have grayscale screens and
as such would not show a green indicator.

When charging a battery, especially new, most indicators tell you you have a
full charge when in fact there may be as much as 10-20% left to go. With a
new battery that last bit takes longer than an older battery hence the need
to leave it in for a longer period of time.

I don't think you should have removed it and reinserted it during a first
time charge. It should be OK but try to make sure it fully discharges during
it's first use to prevent any future "memory" problems. Whenever you stick a
battery in, the Duo will always attempt to start charging it, even if it's
full. Once it has some time to assess the energy level it will then continue
with the charge or stop depending on the batteries need.
