Hey Laurent, I feel your pain.
It all started in January for me with a 280c, my first PowerBook, and I
loved the little thing. But after a while I grew tired of the little screen
and slow speed.
I wanted more.
I the purchased a Wallstreet (G3/233/96MB/14.1" screen) in April and loved
it. I got it for only $900! After lugging it back and forth to work for 2
months my shoulders got fed up with the weight plus I realized all I was
doing with it was email and web surfing. Besides, the dumb thing burned my
lap!
I wanted less.
I sold it for $1600, bought a car for $1300 and a Duo2300 for $300 (go
figure).
I to was hoping for more speed plus I wanted a PowerPC so I could run my
Palm desktop and Sync with my Palm V (which I bought for $5 but that's
another story). It didn't seem any faster than the 280c but I liked the
slightly larger screen and the fact that I could sync. Over the next few
months I added a MiniDock, Asante Micro EN/SC blah, blah, blah. But still,
it wasn't enough.
I wanted more.
About 2 months ago I traded my complete Duo2300 system for a PB1400.
133MHz/32MB/1GIG, 11.4" screen. I like it a lot and although it seems close
in weight to the Wallstreet it has a smaller footprint. Plus it was within
my budget of no available cash.
It's really a nice little machine. My plan is to upgrade to the maximum RAM
(only 64MB, anyone know how to get past this) and upgrade to a Sonnet
G3/333MHz for around $280. I understand that you get even more battery life
from the Sonnet upgrades because of their (I think) copper construction. And
it won't burn my lap!
When it's all said and done I will probably spend as much on it as I would
an iBook but I don't have the money to lay out all at once. Especially since
I'm also trying to upgrade my desktop machine.
I still love the Duo, I have a 230 now, and I love to hang around this list.
I'm just waiting around for the day someone figures out how to sneak a G3
into a 2300.
So to make a long story short...well actually, I guess I didn't ;^)
