I was thinking that but I usually associate dead PRAM with messed up date &
time plus certain finder settings. I've never seen it cause the death tones.
And again, I get the tones when I restart from the special menu. If I shut
down and then power up it seems OK.

I'll just have to locate another PRAM battery to test it. I have a Duo230 I
can pull one out of but I hate the idea of cracking open a good machine.
Seems like I always break one more clip on bottom half.
