ETHERNET:
In my opinion, Ethernet would be the most "common" method, with the 
most accessible instructions and support.  Depending on your Farallon 
card, you will get either 10Kbps speed, or 100Kbps ("Fast"), or 
1000Kbps ("Gigabit").

FIREWIRE:
Unless you have "Gigabit" Ethernet speed, FireWire would be the best, 
as far as speed (though I have not as yet tried it myself).  Ideally, 
you would get 400Kbps (see below for caveats), and when Gigabit 
FireWire is introduced ("soon"), 1000Kbps.  I am also told that 
"FireNet" is more reliable than Ethernet.

This is a "new" capability, for Macs, and I'm hoping it's terrific.

Here's what I "know" so far (un-tested personally):

would WELCOME any corrections or additions to this information, 
especially from people who have actually tried this technology, or, 
seen it work (please specify), or, of course, from the company who 
enables it all (Unibrain).  (I will forward a copy of this message to 
them with an invitation to correct it.)]

__ You would use a normal FireWire cable, no hubs necessary, no extra 
hardware at all.

__ Download the software (for free) from
http://www.Unibrain.com.

__ For Free, you will be able to communicate between your computers 
for 30 minutes between reboots.
__ For $49/machine licence, there will be no time limit.

__ You will need to have at least OS9 and and Apple's "FireWire 
Support 2.5" on both machines.  Because of "Personal File Sharing" 
limitations inherent in OS9.x (in the "multi-homing" domain), you 
will only get a maximum of 100Kbps (I am led to believe that this 
limitation is similar using Ethernet also -- has anyone tried Gigabit 
Ethernet on OS9, and achieved an ACTUAL throughput larger than 
2-300Kbps??)

You can evidently get around this limitation by using AppleShare IP, 
IP NetRouter, or a product by Vicomsoft, all of which address the 
"multi-homing" problem.  (AirPort comes automatically with IP Net 
Router software, by the way.)

BEST would be to run OS X, which evidently dispenses with Open 
Transport, Personal File Sharing, and AppleTalk, and which has all 
the correct stuff to take full advantage of maximum speed, without 
any additional software.
