Paul, the Nokia 8290 should have a built in modem (judging from the model#).
If so it should would fine with Apple's IrDA. The trick is finding the right
modem script--and it's not necessarily what comes bundled with Nokia or
Apple (at least when I went through this about 18 months ago). I tried
several scripts and (I think) ended up using the one with my (unused) Nokia
9110 Communicator. I have my Nokia 8210 working flawlessly with my
2400--although I rarely need to use it in that mode.
