Dear Brandy,
Don't worry; I am one of those fuddy-duddies who insists on using "Miss" and
"Mrs." and does not recognize the legitimacy of that politically correct
term. Sorry about the oversight. It didn't occur to me that there might be
ladies present. Vive la difference!
Since I posted that message a couple of days ago, I have discovered the
modem software v3.1 available for download form the Apple website. With
that software installed, the Apple Express Modem will function fine with
just about any operating system software, so that problem is solved. The
modem is a little slow, but not slow enough to induce me to spend money on a
new portable that might get lost or damaged on my road wars.
Are you aware of any advantage of upgrading to 7.6.1? I am afraid that any
OS higher than 7.5.5 will run slower, and speed is the only problem with the
2300c. My tests have confirmed that system 8.6 boot time is twice that of
7.5.5. My present quest is to find a stripped-down web browser and email
software that will run as fast as possible with the OS 7.5.5. Eudora and
iCab have been recommended, but I haven't tried them yet.
Any wisdom you have to offer will be greatly appreciated!
Yours truly,
Lewis Coleman
