This is a matter of strong opinions on the list. There are essentially three
differing opinions. I personally chose number 3, but I can't really say that
it was better than 2.
1.) OS 7.6 with the OS 8 Appearance manager installed. - REASONS: Smaller,
Lighter, less memory used by the OS, and can run some OS 8 only apps.
2.) OS 8.1. REASON: Many prefer OS 8 to 7.6 due to the interface, features,
OS 8 only apps, and many beleive it to be faster b/c it contains more PPC
native code.
3.) OS 8.6. REASON: Even more PPC native code. More features (sherlock,
etc). CONS: More features may offset any gains made by more PPC native code.
Requires a lot of memory. I recommend only for 56MB Duos (like yours).
Be certain to strip out any unnecessary extensions from whichever system you
decide to install, as 2300c Duos are severely limited b/c of their Lack of
L2 cache and RAM expandability.
