Similar story for me. Well, a bit different. I called up to get help on my
Verizon DSL, and they were fine getting my Mac going, even though I was
running a slower system than they recommended... (they had a minimum of
100MHz listed; my old Mac is 80MHz). The next day I called to get my
roommate's DSL PC going, and one of the first things I mentioned was my Mac
and the Ethernet hub. The woman on the other end of the phone said "we don't
support networks" and hung up. This annoyed me. So I called again and gave
another rap. "A few days ago I got my Mac running on the service, just as a
test. But now I've got to get this high-end PC working. Can you help?" I
didn't breathe a word that they were networked over an Ethernet hub. I was
annoyed, though perhaps I shouldn't have been. The first guy at Verizon was
very helpful, even though I was trying to hook up a very old Mac... one not
guaranteed to work by Verizon. But it did, and does.
A few years ago a friend with an old Mac subscribed to an ISP. But his modem
was so old that it was next to useless. But he got his e-mail OK. But
because he couldn't use the Web, he stopped using the computer, though he
kept paying the ISP. So I gave him a faster modem. When we tried hooking it
up, the ISP couldn't give us ANY information for setup... Since he'd
originally set up his account, they'd gotten rid, apparently, of any help
for older Macs! I was pissed. He was resigned. He bought an iMac. I would
have switched ISPs, but he didn't...
