<< It might be even more worthwhile to donate your time to setting up the macs for the schools/nonprofits. We have always encouraged such donations, but found many of the schools would refuse the equipment because if it wasn't brand new (or PC), their tech person refused to work on it. When we offered to help with our time and mac knowledge, the IT people came up with other excuses, but since we had CC'd our offer to the president of the PTA, the Principal, the teachers who didn't have enough computers, and a local journalist friend, the IT people relented. >> Started laughing when I read this.....I had donated (& installed) a quantity of Macs some years ago to a local school (the "poor" one in our area), so when a friend ended up with 12 PowerMacs he didn't want, I set them all up and told him with whom to talk at several local schools....and ALL the schools REFUSED them!!! Even the ones scrabbling around trying to make ends meet. The ONLY thing my friend wanted was a donation receipt....he and I even offered to set the units up on their network! I couldn't believe it. Most of the units now have been donated to needy families thru local charities...and I called 20 or so teachers at all the schools just to let them know what happened. They were furious (at the administrators) and gave them *$%& during the local school board meeting. Heck, one of the units ended up on my desk (7600 now with a G4 board and a 21" monitor...the unit was set up as a 120 604....not a bad combo, esp. for free! But the schools wouldn't take it, so here it sits and runs and runs and.....). I have no sympathy for the school boards. TONS of sympathy for the teachers (and yes, we did sneak a few into schools....but the school IS guys constantly cause problems 'cuz they say "it ain't a PC"). Teachers.....what can be done??
