I do try. My husband and I give on the average of $40,000 yearly to local charities
and churches. (Regardless of faith since all have a need) We also provide support for
a couple of small schools in South Africa and China. Also thanks to a wonderful boss
(well his wife really) I am able to donate our old company computers both PC and Mac,
which we cycle off every 3 years to youth groups, retirement homes and needy
family’s who could not other wise afford them. I really can’t see the point in
having if I don’t share what good fortune I do have with those whom do not.
Although I did find it a bit odd that the City of Los Angeles frowns on giving
directly to the homeless. Not sure if it’s the city or groups but I did get rather
well chewed out for just taking a car load of food, blankets and clothing to downtown
LA where those poor people were sleeping in boxes and had fires in trash cans and the
street to keep warm.
I plan on going back this year and doing it all over again.. I doubt they can throw me
in jail for giving out blankets and coats.
