Yet another addition about the usefulness of a PCMCIA slot. Anytime a laptop comes out, there are always short comings' as technology advances and the current product is left behind. Expansion is it's key to survival. A PCMCIA slot has served the 2400 well and allowed it to keep up in a sense , by allowing the expansions to include firewire USB dual monitors etc... In my opinion, anything that is not upgradeable is fundamentally through away technology. Sure it will always be useful to someone. but as standards change the product ends up being left behind. Here is an example: One of my jobs that I had while at college was working at the campus store . We carried both iBook dual usb and G4 powerbook Titanium. I had a chance to play allot with the iBook and I point out the following. The iBook has a video board with enough vram , that should allow a 20 inch monitor to be added and display it's max resolution. But apple crippled the mirroring aspect to allow only as much res, as the onboard LCD screen (1024x768 ) This is not enough for serious work. which brings up the next point. If you decide to use the iBook as a graphic design laptop. You are in trouble when you bring up all of those control pallets and clutter up that little 12" screen If you had a PCMCIA slot , you could add a second monitor and use it to store your pallets as you work on the image on the main screen . Same goes for Final cut pro or any complex illustration or any layout design. The G4 Ti book has a PCMCIA slot. And there is nothing the iBook can do that it can't.
