Sorry Chuck, as much as you'd like to think all Apple employees are up to
productive activities, Kyle is right. As long as I've been aware of the
existence of Service Source manuals (10 years now), I've only ever been
able to access them sporadically as a 'member-of-the-public'. Apple does
protect the service manuals *very seriously* and when they become aware
of it _will_immediately_ shut down anyone who hosts SS files privately.

As a non-signer of the Apple non-disclosure agreement however, Apple's
need to restrict access to these files means jacks**t to me. I have to
say I've got a bug up my butt about it, and I'll do all I can to ensure
SS files are known-about, and disseminated as widely as possible. A
'political' decision I suppose, set the knowledge free and all that sort
of blather. What especially galls me is Apple's refusal to release
manuals for product they no longer support, can anyone come up with a
valid reason why that is so?

I'm not sure if Kyle personally disapproves of the public having access
to the repair manuals, but of course professionally he's obligated to
discourage it. As for his reference to 'stolen backdoor links', anything
anyone puts up on a publicly accessable server is fair game. Gamba rocks,
in _my_ book! As for the DL problems folks had recently however, I think
it was server problems or such, as I couldn't access even normally public
areas at that time.

And one more thing, not that I would know but I understand it's trivial
to acquire the access info needed to enter the full AppleCare Service
Source website, which I'm told has such very intriguing stuff as tech
training, full CD images of software plus the Apple SW archive, service
manuals, parts and price lists and much more. So I hear anyway . . .

So DL away until Apple shuts it off, you may not get in again for a long
time! : >)
