It seems to me the first question is whether you want the 2400 to be portable. If so, the other comments are on target. But if you can fix it to a single location at least when it's networked, you can just connect it to the Airport base station via ethernet and get connected to all the other components of your network, including Apple Talk printers. This what I've done with a pre-Airport iMac. You can't configure the base station from the ethernet computer, but you only need one Airport Admin compatible computer for that anyway. You can get a program called Airport modem hangup utility to operate your modem, but it wouldn't be needed for a DSL setup.
A hardwired ethernet network is faster than any wireless one, so you might want several locations around the house via hard wire for your 2400 and just your Pismo that's truly wireless.
