therein lies the rub... the Duo seems unable to find its startup software. I get the happy Mac, I hear the HD spin up; Then, the screen "flickers", the HD stops spinning and the floppy with the flashing "?" appears. I can't remove the installed software, since I am unable to get as far as the Duo's desktop.
I don't know of any way to provide a "substitute" OS that the Duo could use to start up with, other than with a dock. I purchased one from a swap list, but it has yet to arrive and I'm not even sure that will be the solution...
Any clue as to where I should go from here?

Okay... have an idea now...
More than likely your problems derive from the fact that the version of
ClarisWorks on your Duo 230 that is meant for a PowerPC processor and not for
a 68k processor (68030 for the Duo 230).
Once U get your Duo 230 wqorking again, U can try installing CW again, BUT
this time (1) copy the installer program ontop the Duo230's HD, then open the
Duo 230's copy of the installer.. U should be kewl....
