To Alan:

Last night I experienced a very similar problem. During a restart
following software installation there was a small screen flash. The
screen then went blank, but remained lit.

I tried the on/off button and the three finger restart, but neither
worked. Finally, I pressed the reset button and the 2400 shut down. All
efforts to restart failed. I held in the reset button for 20+++ seconds
and then tried again with command-option-P-R depressed. Still nothing.
Finally I unplugged the power adapter and removed the battery and left
the 2400 in that condition for 20+ minutes. I then reinstalled the
battery, reconnected the power adapter and reset the power manager by
holding down the reset button until the 2400 chimed twice. I then
pressed the on/off button and the 2400 restarted.

A couple of weeks ago I experienced a dead 2400 when I tried to wake it
from sleep. I used the same process described above, including the 20+
minute wait, and the 2400 restarted. I posted the experience on the
Duolist and asked for input or suggestions, but didn't receive any.

I was about to upgrade to a G3, but am concerned about doing so until
this problem is resolved. My 2400 is still under warranty so I would
like to resolve the problem before upgrading and then having to pay for a
fix.

My suspicion is that the problem is heat related. When the 2400 would
not awaken from sleep it was very hot. After restarting (20+ minuted
later) Jeremy's temp still read 150+ degrees. Quite a change from the
lower temp I was running after installing 8.6 three weeks before.

I e-mailed a person selling a 2400 battery on e-Bay. It turns out he had
a Newer G3 installed and reported that the 2400 shut down after about an
hour. He indicated that he would have to let the 2400 cool for some time
before it would restart.

Hopes this helps. Would like to know how you make out. Would also
appreciate other comments.
