Video card performance is clearly not involved here, processor speed
might be to a minor extent, connection speed certainly is.
What you can do:
1. Assign as much RAM to Netscape as possible - I run Communicator 4.7
with 16 MB. If you are not dependent on such Communicator functions as
Composer etc., you might try Netscape as a stand-alone browser (it is
less RAM-greedy) though I am not sure whether some of the newer plug-ins
(java/audio related) will work with it.
2. Go to Netscape�s preferences (Advanced / Cache), set Disk Cache to
zero and disable the "compare" function. The cumulative file caching not
only takes up large amounts of space on your HD, it also slows down
Netscape. (you should also go to the preferences folder inside yous
system folder and empty the cache folder (Netscape prefs/users/cache). If
you switch a lot between loaded pages during a session, you might want to
use NavComCacheControl, a small shareware utility which enables you to
set a portion of RAM (5M recommended) for caching. Well, RAM is
everything...
3. If you connect via modem, be sure to have the port speed set correctly
( 115kbs is max on the 2300). Someone on this list recently suggested
that disabling compression and error control improves speed (and it seems
to work for me), but that was for OT/PPP - I don�t know about ethernet
setting options.
I went through these procedures with good result, also Netscape hardly
ever crashes now - only when the initial connection attempt fails, I have
to restart the browser (seems to be a bug).

Most likely a question of RAM
Is there a preferred web browser (in

I found IE bulky, inconvenient to set up and no less RAM-consuming than
NS. icab will probably become a good alternative (it`s still in beta) -
very lean and fast!
