The connection you are using is Analog and not supported by all carriers for
Data. Digital data connections can be had for less money (not on your phone,
you need the 6190) using the serial interface provided by Nokia, but there are
no Mac drivers. The main reason I need serial is because I want to use it with
my 2300, which only has the option of serial interface (no PCMCIA or IRda).

Does anyone see the irony here? The Duo is the perfect portable computer for
cellular connections. It is the lightest and most compact of all of the
PowerBooks, The serial port allows you to print and the dialup allows you to
access the web via analog modem. Due to the restricted 9600 bps data rate of
cellular service, the Duo is perfectly matched to the lethargic speed (the Duo
can't really handle much more than faxing & e-mail either).

IMHO, as far as the portable office is concerned (writing letters, printing
them, sending & receiving faxes & getting e-mail), the Duo is all you need (it
is not much slower at these tasks than my PB G3 FW)!

If I were a smart company, I'd buy up all the Duos I could get my hands on (at
the current prices) and give them to my employees for portable use. In some
cases, I'd even get some docks for their full time use. A full PPC 2300c Duo
with Dock II/Plus setup only costs about $400 on eBay. You can get one Mac guy
for your entire company at a real bargain, too, because nobody uses Macs
compared to PC use. That would also keep non-business related browsing to
minimum (a growing corporate concern).
