I've been a happy ricochet user on and off since 1995.
They should be open in about 20 metro areas by end of year. They have
pushed the selling of the service to other copanies. Metricom is only
building the network.
They'll all be 128Kbs too.
I too have given up on using a mobile phone for net access. I did it
while living in Europe and was shocked at how poor the quality of
access and how high the prices was. Ricochet service was one of the
many things I missed while abroad (cheap gas, and quality tex-mex
being some others high on my list. =)
Check with them and see if they'll be available in your area.
